A Journey Through Burundi in 15 Coffees

In the heart of East Africa lies Burundi, woven with threads of emerald green hills, shimmering lakes and vibrant culture. Its crisp air carries the earthy scent of damp soil, perfect for an array of vegetables, fruits and legumes, sold at the bustling market in Bujumbura. The gentle rustling of leaves are accompanied by a symphony of bird songs and the call of the African Fish Eagle.

Traveling deeper into the countryside and out of the energetic Bujumbura, the landscape shifts to terraced hillsides covered with banana groves, tea plantations and coffee trees. The rich, loamy scent of the earth mingles with the sweet aroma of flowering coffee trees, a reminder of Burundi’s reputation for producing some of the finest coffee in the world. In a year of exceptional growth, characterized by new farmers, doubled micro-lots and new flavor profile discoveries, we know there’s something extraordinarily special about this year's Private Auction Collection and we’re thrilled to invite you along to explore it again. You can expect coffees from 15 exceptional microlots across 12 different hills, processed at our three washing stations.

How does the auction operate, including rules and features?

Bidders must create an account and register for each auction in which they would like to participate. Some auctions require a registration fee, and some do not. Sample sets are available for purchase for each auction. Procuers select the style and duration of their auction, but all specialty coffee auctions allow for bidding to occur on each lot simultanesouly, meaning that you do not have to wait to place a bid on any lot during the auction. When the clock on the auction counts down to zero, whoever has placed the last, highest bid on a particular lot wins that lot and is responsible for purchasing the entire lot. This auction is a 36-hour auction, which means that there is an "open" bidding period for the first 36 hours. After that initial open bidding period, the clock will start and count down from 3 minutes. If there is a bid during that 3 min period, then the clock will restart. If the time on the clock runs out (when there are 0 minutes and seconds remaining) before there is a new bid, the auction will end.

How does the auction operate, including rules and features?

This auction has two main phases, the open bidding period where the auction will not have a clock and bidders can place their initial bids. Once all lots have a bid on them, the clock will start and count down from ____ minutes. If there is a bid during that ____ min period, then the clock will restart.  If the clock hits 0 before there is a new bid, the auction will end.
